2021 Student Emergency Fund

46 Comets have raised $9,696 for UT Dallas students in need!

CELEBRATE OUR FOUNDERS BY SUPPORTING STUDENTS IN NEED

On Oct. 29, the UT Dallas community celebrated the visionary leaders that founded our University. Eugene McDermott, Cecil H. Green, and J. Erik Jonsson were dedicated to the vision of a thriving North Texas and sought to do their part to fill critical needs in their community. The University of Texas at Dallas was the fruition of that vision, passion, and commitment.

Today, UT Dallas is that and so much more. Across a vibrant campus where research breakthroughs take place daily, where students, faculty and staff are dedicated to carrying out the founders’ vision, one need is still apparent. The Student Emergency Fund began to help students facing hardships from COVID-19. While it continues to help those who are still impacted by the pandemic, the fund has expanded and will remain a critical resource on campus for all student in need, now and in the future. Today, we are asking you to join the founders in spirit by making a contribution to help students in need.

Currently, over 30 students need emergency funds. With an average need of $400 per student, more than $12,000 is required this semester to ensure all UT Dallas students receive necessary help to close out another successful semester.

This need can be met when our Comet community joins forces together.

ABOUT THE STUDENT EMERGENCY FUND

The UT Dallas Student Emergency Fund supports all UT Dallas students experiencing financial hardships. It is managed by the Division of Student Affairs and Office of Financial Aid, and financial support is based on immediate needs

The Student Emergency Fund was created during a time of unprecedented uncertainty. Unfortunately, many UTD students continue to face difficulties as a direct result of COVID-19, and unexpected financial hardships may limit students from continuing on their academic journeys.

To date, 2,895 students have been served and over $1 million in emergency funds have been disbursed. The Student Emergency Fund represents the resilience and generosity of the Comet spirit. It's creation was driven by alumni and friends asking how they could help current students, and provides a way for our community to continue meeting the emergent needs of students.

By supporting the UT Dallas Student Emergency Fund, you can assist UT Dallas students contending with financial challenges such as:

  • Housing and food insecurity
  • Medical care and prescriptions
  • Travel costs to return home
  • Elimination of jobs and/or reduction of income
  • Technology needs for remote learning
  • Other unplanned expenses

The Comet community continues to come together to support every student facing unforeseen challenges.
